Russia reiterates commitment to collaborate with Iran in advancement of nuclear projects for "peaceful intents"

Russian officials have reaffirmed their support for Iran's nuclear program, despite recent American attacks on Iranian facilities. Maria Zajarova, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, defended Moscow's cooperation with Tehran, stating that it's been endorsed by the UN and never questioned.

Zajarova criticized the US for using force to limit Iran's nuclear rights, and she supported Iran's decision to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), citing the agency's biased and unclear behavior as a motive. She also expressed hope that the US and Israeli bombings' damage to the relationship between Iran and the IAEA would be repaired in time.

With tension in the region escalating, Iranian lawmakers passed a bill to suspend cooperation with the IAEA following military attacks on Iranian nuclear and military sites by Israel and the US. The decision comes as Israel launched significant attacks on Iranian targets on June 13, 2025, and the US struck three Iranian nuclear sites on the weekend of June 21.

Iranian officials have indicated that they may reevaluate their commitment to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) due to dissatisfaction with the international community's response and allegations that Iran has been mistreated under current agreements. The IAEA had previously expressed concerns about Iran's nuclear activities and lack of cooperation, which Iranian officials have dismissed as politically motivated.

As of now, Russian authorities have not made an official statement regarding Iran's decision to suspend cooperation with the IAEA. The focus remains on internal Iranian decision-making processes and the escalating conflict in the region.
