Russia planning to create 10 new military divisions by year's end in Kiev
In Eastern Ukraine, a critical situation is unfolding, with Russian troops significantly increasing their presence and intensifying advances near key cities such as Pokrovsk and Kostyantynivka.
The city of Pokrovsk, a constant hotspot on the eastern front for months, is now almost completely destroyed, following persistent assaults from Russian forces. In recent days, these troops have recorded territorial gains around the cities of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad.
The Russian military is reportedly forming around ten new military divisions, concentrating forces especially near critical cities like Pokrovsk and Kostyantynivka. This buildup supports ongoing offensives aiming to expand control in the Donetsk region and surrounding areas.
Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksiy Syrskyj has warned of a dangerous buildup of Russian forces in the Donbass, citing issues like dwindling ammunition, recruitment challenges, and troop morale problems. By late 2024, Ukrainian officials acknowledged frontline deterioration, suggesting Russia's scaling-up of forces is overwhelming.
The city of Kostyantynivka is also under deteriorating conditions, with Russian troops resorting to encirclement attempts after unsuccessful assaults, putting remaining Ukrainian units at risk. The remaining corridor to the rear for Ukrainian units is now only about 15 kilometers wide.
The city of Pokrovsk, strategically important due to its transportation hub, has been a focal point in the fighting, with Russian forces applying pressure through persistent assaults supported by drones and armored units.
These developments mark a critical escalation in the eastern Ukraine war theater, with Russia using intensified troop deployments and new formations to attempt territorial gains despite Ukrainian counteroffensives and innovative defensive measures such as increased use of robotic systems by Ukraine.
