The Late-Night Russian Attacks on Ukraine

The Russians waged a series of air strikes on Ukraine throughout the night, a move that sent Kyiv's air defenses buzzing and triggered explosions in cities like Kharkiv and Dnipro. The Ukrainian air force had earlier warned of drone attacks across the country.

Most of these drones, according to military analysts, were heading westward. Additionally, Russian rocket attacks were anticipated from strategic bombers and warships already airborne during the night.

Ukraine, under continuous invasion by Russia for more than three years, is standing firm.

As of late June 2025, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine remains combustible, with sustained Russian offensives and recurring air and drone attacks.

During a summer offensive in June 2025, Russia took control of approximately 36 square miles of territory, about half the pace of the previous week. However, the Russian forces have encountered obstacles in capturing cities, despite some territorial advances. On the other hand, Ukrainian troops have executed successful counterattacks, reclaiming some positions.

Ukraine has faced a massive wave of Russian drone attacks, including over 4,000 in May 2025 alone, along with numerous ballistic and cruise missiles. While Ukraine managed to intercept around half of the drones and several missiles, the air war has intensified, making it challenging for Ukraine to defend against airstrikes and resulting in rising civilian casualties. The air war has grown more treacherous, with civilians growing increasingly vulnerable.

The death toll, since the invasion began, is estimated at around 950,000 in total, with 250,000 reported deaths. Russia has lost more than 1,149 armored fighting vehicles and thousands of other military vehicles by June 2025. Both sides have endured heavy casualties, with hundreds of thousands of military personnel sustaining injuries, going missing, or succumbing to their wounds.

Russian President Putin has continued to accuse Ukraine, the West, and NATO, while expressing a readiness for a third round of negotiations and prisoner exchanges. Despite this, the conflict persists without a ceasefire. The ongoing military combat, persistent air and drone attacks, substantial casualties, and ongoing diplomatic maneuvers continue to shape the conflict.

Politics and general news remain centered around war-and-conflicts, as the ongoing dispute between Russia and Ukraine persists without a ceasefire. This ongoing conflict, highlighted by regular air and drone attacks, has resulted in a treacherous air war, making it challenging for Ukraine to defend against airstrikes and leading to rising civilian casualties.
