As President Trump eyes a ceasefire in Ukraine, his designated envoy, Keith Kellogg, appears conspicuously absent from recent negotiations. It seems the Kremlin has reasons to snub Kellogg's involvement.
According to a U.S. government source, Russia has expressed disinterest in American envoy Keith Kellogg participating in talks to bring an end to the Ukraine conflict. Vladimir Putin allegedly views Kellogg as overly pro-Ukraine, a stance corroborated by NBC News, citing a high-ranking Russian official.
Kellogg has skipped some meetings, such as Mike Waltz and Marco Rubio's discussion with a Ukrainian delegation in Saudi Arabia earlier this week, as well as a high-level meeting with Russians in Saudi Arabia in February.
Putin's "Hesitant Yes" on Ceasefire with Ukraine: Munz
In a rather uncouth comparison, Kellogg suggested the Ukrainians brought the temporary suspension of military aid and intelligence upon themselves, likening them to a stubborn mule. Speaking at a Council on Foreign Relations event last week, he quipped, "It's like hitting a mule with a two-by-four on the nose. You get their attention."
Kellogg, a retired general, was appointed as Trump's special envoy for Ukraine and Russia in November. "He has been with me from the beginning," Trump boasted on his Truth Social platform, acknowledging Kellogg's long-standing role as his defense advisor and national security advisor to former Vice President Mike Pence.
Trump pinned his hopes on Kellogg, stating that together they would strive for peace through strength and safeguard America and the world. However, his unyielding comparison of Ukraine to a mule left Kriewald "speechless."
