Russia once more undergoes drone attacks on its refineries, this time allegedly by Ukraine.

In a series of attacks on the night of September 18, 2025, the megacity of Volgograd and the region of Bashkortostan were targeted by Ukrainian drones.

The refinery in Volgograd, one of the largest oil processing plants in Russia, was reportedly hit. The Ukrainian military claimed responsibility for the attack, justifying it as a means to disrupt the supply of fuel to the Russian army. According to Governor Andrey Botsharov, the incident was confirmed.

The head of the region, Radi Khabirov, stated that there were no fatalities or injuries as a result of the attack. However, emergency services are currently extinguishing a fire at the site of the attack. Preliminary information suggests that the work of the refinery has been halted.

It's worth noting that the refinery in Volgograd has been damaged in attacks in the past. This latest attack is part of a broader strategy by Ukraine to target oil facilities in Russia. The attacks are intended to make it harder for Moscow to finance the war.

In the morning of the same day, another attack occurred in the region of Bashkortostan. The chemical plant in Salavat, belonging to Gazprom, was hit by two drones. However, there are no verified reports or credible sources confirming this attack.

The attacks on the refinery in Volgograd and the chemical plant in Bashkortostan have caused damage in the past. The extent of the damage to the chemical plant is still being assessed.

On Thursday night, 43 Ukrainian drones were intercepted, including almost a dozen in the Volgograd region. The attacks are a significant escalation in the conflict, with Ukraine's justification being to counteract the destruction caused by Russia's war in Ukraine.

However, the scale of the Ukrainian attacks is disproportionate to the destruction caused by Russia's war in Ukraine. There was only minor damage to some residential buildings due to falling drone debris in Volgograd.

The information about the hit on the refinery cannot be independently verified at this time. It's crucial to maintain a balanced perspective on the events as they unfold.
