Russia maintains a stubborn stance in response to Trump's warning of sanctions
Russia's Continued Bombardment of Civilian Areas in Ukraine Draws International Condemnation
In a series of events over the past few days, Russia has been accused of deliberate attacks on civilian targets across Ukraine, including prisons and medical facilities.
On July 28-30, 2025, multiple Russian drone and missile strikes targeted civilian areas, resulting in significant casualties and damage. In the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, four powerful glide bombs struck a prison, killing at least 16 to 17 inmates and wounding over 80-90 others, according to Ukrainian officials. In the Dnipro region, Russian missiles partially destroyed a three-story building and damaged a maternity hospital and a city hospital ward, resulting in at least three to four deaths, including a pregnant woman, and injuring several others.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky characterized these strikes as conscious and intentional actions rather than accidental. In a post on Telegram, he wrote that everyone needs peace, except Russia.
The attacks come amid intensified Ukrainian strikes targeting Russian military logistics and industrial facilities, reflecting ongoing escalations on both sides. Russian forces continue to launch drone and missile attacks near the frontline and in rear areas, with Ukrainian air defenses intercepting many of these attacks but some still causing disruption.
The strikes on civilian infrastructure, including prisons and medical facilities, have drawn condemnation as war crimes under international law by Ukrainian authorities. The attacks have also been met with criticism from world leaders, including former US President Donald Trump.
Trump has rebuked Russian President Vladimir Putin for continuing to bombard Ukrainian civilians and has given Putin 10 to 12 days to stop the killing in Ukraine, moving up a previous 50-day deadline. Trump wants peace efforts to make progress by Thursday to Saturday next week.
In a statement, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia is determined to achieve its goals in Ukraine and is committed to seeking a peaceful solution. However, the Kremlin has not changed its tactics in Ukraine.
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev warned that each new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war, not with Ukraine, but with Russia itself.

Additional details of the ongoing war-and-conflicts in Ukraine have emerged, with politics heavily influencing the situation. Russian drone and missile strikes, particularly those targeting civilian areas, have been widely criticized as war crimes, following escalations on both sides. The series of events, including the deliberate attacks on prisons and medical facilities, have drawn condemnation from Ukrainian authorities, world leaders, and even former United States President Donald Trump. As Trump has put pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the attacks, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has warned that each new ultimatum is a step towards a wider conflict, not just with Ukraine, but with Russia itself.
