Russia launches largest missile and drone attack against Kyiv since the onset of the war in Ukraine.

Kyiv, the capital city of Ukraine, was subjected to a massive drone and missile attack on October 7, 2022. According to reports, Russia launched 550 drones and missiles across Ukraine, with Kyiv bearing the brunt of the assault.

The majority of the drones used were Shahed drones, Iranian-supplied unmanned aerial vehicles. Ukraine's air defences managed to intercept a significant number of these aerial threats, shooting down 270 targets, including two cruise missiles. However, falling debris was recorded in Darnytskyi and Holosiivskyi districts, causing damage in at least five districts of Kyiv.

In Solomianskyi district, a five-story residential building was partially destroyed, and fires broke out at a warehouse, a garage complex, and an auto repair facility. In Shevchenkivskyi district, an eight-story building sustained damage, while in Sviatoshynskyi district, a 14-story residential building was hit, causing a fire. Several vehicles also caught fire nearby.

The attack on Kyiv resulted in at least 23 injuries, with 14 hospitalised. Ukraine's national railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, reported drone strikes damaging rail infrastructure in the city.

Interestingly, this attack occurred hours after President Donald Trump held a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump later made his first public comments on his administration's decision to pause some shipments of weapons to Ukraine.

It is worth noting that Kyiv has faced significant drone and missile attacks during the ongoing conflict. Typically, Russia has used Shahed drones and various types of missiles, including cruise missiles and S-300 missiles. These munitions are intended to counter incoming missiles and drones, and bring down Russian aircraft.

For more specific details on past attacks, including those around October 2022, it would be necessary to consult historical records or news archives from that period. However, it is clear that the people of Kyiv have shown remarkable resilience in the face of such attacks, and their spirit remains undeterred.
