Russia faced yet another round of sanctions from the EU, marked as the 19th such package.

The European Commission has announced its intention to accelerate the phase-out of Russian oil, as part of a phased reduction of Russian fossil fuel imports. This decision comes in response to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and is aimed at stopping the financing of bloodshed in the region.

Following a phone call between European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and US President Donald Trump, the proposal was made. Von der Leyen stated that the Russian military economy is reportedly being funded by fossil fuel revenues, and the phase-out of these imports is crucial to ending the conflict.

The European Commission has not disclosed an exact date or deadline for the end of all European oil and gas imports from Russia, but a rapidly presented 19th package of EU-Russia sanctions, including measures against banks and the energy sector, is planned soon. The detailed timing of this package remains unspecified.

In other news, the killer of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk is facing a potential death penalty, according to prosecutors. Meanwhile, Oleg Gazmanov, a Russian citizen, has fallen victim to a scammer, losing the money he had saved for his pension over a period of 10 years.

Navalny, a prominent Russian opposition leader, was confirmed to have been poisoned in prison, according to labs from two countries. However, no further details on his condition have been released.

Stay tuned for more updates as the European Commission prepares to present a draft of a new sanctions package, primarily focused on Russian oil, in the near future.
