Russia experiences drone strikes on oil refineries by Ukraine
In a series of drone attacks, Ukraine has targeted oil refineries in two Russian regions near the Volga River, causing minor damages and disruptions. The city of Volgograd, with a population of over one million, was shelled during the night, according to Governor Andrei Bocharov. The Ukrainian military reported a hit on the refinery in Volgograd, suggesting that its operations have been halted. Minor damages to some residential buildings were reported due to falling drone debris. The refinery in Volgograd, one of the largest oil processing plants in Russia, has been damaged in previous attacks. The drones reportedly targeted a 'key object' of the plant, and the refinery produces fuel for the Russian army. However, the information about the hit on the refinery in Volgograd cannot be independently verified. Another attack occurred in the morning in the region of Bashkortostan, specifically in the city of Salavat. The chemical plant targeted in Salavat belongs to Gazprom. The attack was carried out by two drones, as confirmed by the head of the region, Radi Khabirov. There were no reported deaths or injuries in the attack, and the chemical plant was operating normally by the afternoon. According to Ukrainian media outlets, the drones used in the attack on the chemical plant in Salavat were from the SBU intelligence service. Another Russian region, Bashkortostan, was also attacked in the same manner. The attacks on the oil facilities in Russia, including the chemical plant in Salavat, are intended to disrupt the fuel supply of the Russian military and make it more difficult for Moscow to finance the war. However, the scale of Ukraine's attacks on oil facilities in Russia is not comparable to the destruction Russia is causing in Ukraine with its war. The Russian military intercepted 43 Ukrainian drones overnight, including nearly a dozen in the Volgograd region. The attacks on the refineries were conducted from Kyiv, with the production of fuel for the Russian army given as the reason. The fire caused by the attack is currently being extinguished, and all emergency services are on site. As the conflict between Ukraine and Russia continues, both sides have been accused of using military force against civilian infrastructure. The situation remains tense, and both countries have been urged to cease hostilities and engage in diplomatic negotiations to resolve the ongoing crisis.
