It appears the guns may fall silent temporarily, but an end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine appears far from reach. US Vice President JD Vance perceives a huge gap between Moscow and Kyiv, yet believes there's hope for a resolution via direct dialogue.
The Western world currently views Russia's terms for ending the Ukraine war as overly aggressive. "The Russians are putting forth a series of extreme demands right now," Vice President JD Vance stated at a Munich Security Conference event in Washington, DC. "We think they're asking for way too much."
However, the vice president underscores the necessity to comprehend the Kremlin's stance. "You don't need to buy into Russia's justification for the war - both the president and I have criticized the invasion extensively - but you gotta attempt to grasp what their motivations are," he said. He wouldn't agree that the Russian side isn't interested in a solution.

In a panel discussion with long-time Munich Security Conference chairman Wolfgang Ischinger, JD Vance also defended the US President's approach towards the Ukraine issue. Trump follows a "strategic realism," Vance explained, and therefore tries to understand Russia's position. This doesn't mean endorsing Russia's justification for the war, Vance clarified. Instead, Trump acts out of humanitarian concerns and desires to put a halt to the violence.
Growing Concern over Course Correction
