In an escalation of hostilities, more than half of Ukraine was put on high alert last night as air raid sirens blared due to the threat of incoming drones. According to reports, the Russian military launched a drone strike on targets in the interior regions of Ukraine.

The drone strike, which occurred in the evening according to Central European Summer Time (CEST), targeted areas in the Ukrainian hinterland. The Ukrainian military reported observing several dozen enemy combat drones heading west after the strike.

The air defense fire in Kyiv, the capital city, was a response to the drone strike. The sound of anti-aircraft guns echoed through the city at 23:00 CEST, as reported by a correspondent for the German Press Agency.

The larger drone attacks on targets in the Ukrainian rear areas are believed to be coordinated by the Russian military leadership. However, specific names of individual commanders or responsible officers have not been publicly identified in the available sources. The Russian military has been known to deploy hundreds of drones in these attacks, with up to 728 drones reported in one night in July 2025.

Despite the ongoing threat, the Ukrainian military continues to monitor the situation closely, ready to protect its territory and its people. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing conflict and the need for peace and diplomacy.
