Defending Dnipropetrovsk: A Battle of Strength and Strategy Against Russian Forces
Russia Braced for Significant Losses as Potent Defense Mechanisms Prepare for Maximum Causalities
On the Ukrainian frontline, Kyiv's forces are standing their ground against numerically superior Russian troops. To make a difference, they are building robust defense installations aiming to inflict heavy losses on the invading forces.
Recently, military-affiliated project Deepstate, which offers insight into the warzone, secured access to the Dnipropetrovsk region's defense installations under threat of Russian attack. Despite Russia's claim of advancing to the region, Kyiv has denied it.
The quality of these defense installations has been a subject of discussion in Ukraine. Many claim that some points on the frontline lack proper defense structures, essential for Ukrainian fighters to halt and engage with the enemy. Deepstate reports "critical problems" in the Kharkiv region, but in Dnipropetrovsk, they found the defenses being prepared with reasonable quality, although the extent wasn't clear. To verify this, they inspected the terrain firsthand.
Deepstate shared that in Dnipropetrovsk and the Donetsk region, emphasis is being placed on constructing barriers composed of various obstacles, such as anti-tank ditches, dragon's teeth, or minefields. These fortifications are designed to halt and exhaust the enemy by inflicting maximum losses.
Despite the efforts, good defense installations are not a cure-all. Deepstate published images of some installations, showcasing rows of trenches, earth mounds, and concrete blocks, demonstrating the importance of building such defenses in the face of the "Moscow hordes." These masses of infantry, sent into battle by Russian commanders disregarding losses, are the major problem on the frontline, Deepstate asserts.
The only effective defense against these infantry units is barbed wire, according to Colonel Reisner. In an interview with ntv.de, he explained, "A horde that never ends and constantly exerts pressure on our fighters' positions with small groups allows the enemy to advance, as the Moscow troops simply don't calculate losses and are ready to sacrifice thousands of infantrymen to achieve their goals."
However, Deepstate doesn't provide an unbiased evaluation of the quality of the defenses, only highlighting improvements in the building process. Simultaneously, it acknowledges that defenses themselves aren't a solution to the Russian invasion, which involves the use of drones, glide bombs, and other threats. The project also emphasizes the importance of effective leadership within Ukrainian ranks, as the fate of the installations doesn't merely rest on their construction but also the soldiers tasked with defending them.
