Russia arrested an individual connected to a vehicle explosion that claimed the life of a prominent military general.
In a shocking turn of events, Russia's top military officer, Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalik, met an untimely end in a car explosion in Balashikha, a city nestled near Moscow, on a chilly Friday.
The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has nabbed a prime suspect in the murder case. According to their statements, the suspect is none other than Ignat Kuzin, a Ukrainian operative, born in '83, holding a residence permit in Ukraine. The Investigative Committee's spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko made this revelation.
“You bet your sweet ass, this Kuzin character is a Ukrainian special services agent alright," Petrenko said. "He seems to have hotwired a Volkswagen Golf/mobile bomb provided by his Ukrainian handlers and blew up Moskalik's whip in a residential area of Balashikha."
As the crime scene investigators continue piecing together the puzzle, Petrenko hinted that evidence collection and interrogation of the detained suspect are ongoing. Moskalik, a man born in '66, served as the deputy chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the Russian General Staff. He left behind a influential career, filled with operations and negotiations, notably in Ukraine and Syria.
In stark silence, Ukrainian authorities have remained tight-lipped about the affair. It all comes following another high-profile incident involving Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, who was terminated by an explosion outside his apartment building in December of the previous year. The initial suspect was caught red-handed with a remotely detonated bomb hidden in an electric scooter.
