Russia and China scrap visas to boost cross-border business and tourism

Russia and China have launched a mutual visa-free travel agreement. Starting December 1, 2022, citizens from both countries can visit each other's business for up to 30 days without needing a visa. The move is expected to boost tourism and business exchanges between the two nations.

The new rules allow travel for tourism, business, or private visits. Visitors will no longer face visa paperwork, making trips simpler and more appealing. Primorsky Territory, a key region in Russia’s Far East, is preparing for an increase in Chinese business visitors. Natalya Naboychenko, the territory’s tourism minister, is developing a dedicated package for Chinese travellers. It will cover logistics, accommodation, meals, and guided tours. The aim is to attract more independent travellers and business visitors to the region.

Local officials anticipate a sharp rise in arrivals from China. The simplified entry process is seen as a major factor in this expected growth.

The visa-free regime removes a key barrier for short-term business visitors. Primorsky Territory’s business sector is now gearing up to welcome more Chinese business visitors. The new measures take effect from December 1, 2022.
