In a sombre development, Ukraine announced on Thursday that Russia has handed over another 1,000 bodies belonging to Ukrainian soldiers killed in combat. This marks the latest exchange of dead soldiers and prisoners of war between the two nations, a rare area of cooperation since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.

According to the Ukrainian government's prisoner of war centre, this new exchange brings the number of bodies recovered by Ukraine to over 12,000 since the beginning of the year. The handover was mediated by the International Red Cross, but no specific Russian general is mentioned in connection with this coordination.

Meanwhile, talks for a ceasefire are once again at a standstill. The positions of Moscow and Kiev appear irreconcilable, with no signs of progress in the ongoing negotiations.

In a separate report, Russian war correspondent Alexander Kots stated that Russia has recovered the bodies of 24 soldiers handed over by Ukraine.

This exchange of dead soldiers is one of the few open areas of cooperation between Kiev and Moscow. However, the ongoing conflict continues to claim lives on both sides, with each nation seeking a resolution to end the violence and bring peace to their people.

The Ukrainian government's prisoner of war centre made this announcement on Telegram, adding that similar exchanges have taken place within the framework of similar agreements in recent months. Russia has also received several hundred bodies in the same period.

As the conflict continues, both nations remain hopeful for a peaceful resolution. The international community continues to call for an end to the violence and for both sides to work towards a lasting peace.
