Rumors abuzz, Russia has allegedly sent over more than 6,000 bodies in recent times. But here’s the twist – these corpses aren't only Ukrainians. This isn't a new tactic from the Russians, either.
The latest repatriation of thousands of soldier's bodies from Russia, as confirmed by Ukraine's Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko in Kyiv, included Russian bodies, too. However, Klymenko didn’t disclose the exact number of such instances in a recent Telegram post.
MINISTERS MENOARIES: "The SOB (enemy) is sowing chaos by concocting confusion in identifying the dead, mixing Russian corpses with ours." Klymenko penned down on Telegram. Photos surfaced showing a dead Russian soldier's military ID and identification tag that were handed over to Ukraine, although independent verifications were unavailable.
Politics | Russia Watch | Rouble Woes Russia has sent back over 6,000 bodies to Ukraine; Moscow, on the other hand, has received more than 50 bodies. This exchange forms part of the humanitarian gestures approved by both parties in Istanbul in early June. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was the first to voice his concerns publicly that Russia was also returning its own soldiers' remains to Ukraine.
On Thursday, Ukraine and Russia traded prisoners for the fifth time. Members of the army, national guard, and border troops were among the exchangees, as per Zelenskyy's Telegram. The Office for the Affairs of Prisoners of War stated that severely injured and seriously ill soldiers were exchanged. Most of those released had been captive for more than three years. The Russian Ministry of Defense verified the exchange at the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, although neither side disclosed the numbers of soldiers returned home.
