Ruslan Berdenov, survivor of an alleged attempted murder, denies any connection to the false claim.
In a shocking turn of events, the trial for the attempted murder of Deputy Akim of Shymkent, Ruslan Berdenov, concluded on August 20, 2025, with the sentencing of the suspect, Yernar Zhiyembay, to nine years in prison.
The incident, which took place near the Shymket akimat building on April 21, 2025, left Berdenov wounded but alive. Zhiyembay, the suspect, was immediately detained at the scene following the shooting.
The court proceedings began in early August, with Zhiyembay being questioned and accused of attempted murder. The motive behind the attack remained unclear, with speculations pointing towards professional conflicts or possible dismissal related to Zhiyembay’s work performance.
Berdenov, after being discharged from the hospital, made his first statement, denying any connection to Arman Abdeshov, who was also detained on April 21, 2025. Abdeshov, the former head of the architecture and urban planning department of Shymkent, was not linked to Berdenov, as he was appointed to his position before Berdenov joined the akimat.
A criminal case was opened following the incident, and Berdenov underwent emergency surgery to treat the gunshot wound he sustained. The report about the incident was published by Liter.kz.
As the trial draws to a close, Berdenov continues to serve in his role as Deputy Akim of Shymkent, demonstrating resilience and determination in the face of adversity. The city of Shymkent awaits the full details of the case and the motives behind the attack, hoping for a swift resolution and peace for all parties involved.
