Rural Energy Transition: A Collaborative Effort Between the USA and Germany

On September 24, 2025, at 4 pm, the Aspen Institute Germany will be hosting an online conference titled "Transatlantic Cooperation for the Future of Agriculture and Energy." This event is open to the public and encourages participation and questions from attendees.

The conference is part of the "U.S.-German Forum Future Agriculture" project and features farmers from both the USA and Germany, as well as experts and politicians. Angela Heinssen, Attorney and Managing Director at An der Lühe, and Benjamin Riensche, Owner and Manager of Blue Diamond Farming Company, are among the participants.

The conference aims to discuss the pros and cons of decentralized energy supply and economic opportunities for farmers. It also focuses on topics related to energy transition and renewable energy. Speakers at the conference include Dr. Stormy-Annika Mildner, Anna Aeikens, Karl Bär, William Hohenstein, Stefan Köhler, Joschka Knuth (State Secretary in the Ministry of Energy Transition, Climate Protection, Environment and Nature of the State of Schleswig-Holstein), and Genevieve Byrne, Professor of Law and Interim Director of Energy Clinic, Vermont Law and Graduate School.

The conference will be moderated by different individuals at different sessions. Highlights include the session on "Practical Perspectives on Politics: Lessons and Recommendations for the Future" at 17:10, and the "Virtual Farm Tours" featuring Breanna Reed from Bee-ewe-tiful Farm at 17:05.

The event also includes a session on practical perspectives on politics. The conference's focus is on exchange and learning from each other, with reciprocal farm visits and operational visits also part of the program.

The conference will summarize the results of the transatlantic exchange and present a comprehensive and detailed position paper with recommendations for action for agriculture, research, and politics on how to support and advance renewable energies.
