In a shocking turn of events, the Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked during a weekly Jan Sunvai at her official residence in Civil Lines on Wednesday. The attacker, Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya, a resident of Gujarat's Rajkot, shouted at the CM, slapped her, and began abusing her.
The Delhi Police is investigating the attack from all possible angles, as ministers in the Delhi government allege that the attacker had conducted a recce of CM Rekha Gupta's official residence for nearly 24 hours, even recording videos of the premises and spending the night in the vicinity, suggesting a pre-planned attack.
Rajesh Bhai has at least five cases registered against him at Bhaktinagar Police Station in Rajkot. Four of these cases have been acquitted, and one case remains pending in court, with the next hearing scheduled for September 9. On Wednesday, he was taken into police custody in connection with the attack on Delhi CM Rekha Gupta. An attempt to murder case has been registered against him.
The attack has been registered under sections 109(1)/132/221 BNS at PS Civil Lines. The Delhi Police are working diligently to gather evidence and bring the perpetrator to justice.
