Running Marathon in Dusseldorf
The city of Düsseldorf welcomed back the Uniper Düsseldorf Marathon on Sunday, April 27, 2025, after a six-year hiatus. The event, which included a marathon, half marathon, relay, and kids' races, attracted a total of 14,350 participants and around 250,000 spectators.
The marathon saw a thrilling victory by Alex Maier from the USA, who crossed the finish line in an impressive 2:08:33, setting a new personal best. In the women's marathon, Leah Cheruto from Kenya triumphed with a time of 2:25:23, also setting a new personal best. Esther Pfeiffer from the Uniper D.RUNNING team won the women's half marathon in 1:09:43, while Florian Neuschwander took the men's half marathon title in 1:07:11.
The "Vier gewinnt" relay team, with Mayor Keller as the final runner, finished the marathon in 3:57, under the four-hour mark. The Fortuna legends relay team completed their race in exactly four hours, with children from the Kinderhospiz Regenbogenland accompanying them on the final kilometer. The participation of these young runners indicates a promising running future in Düsseldorf, with 121 young participants taking part in the event.
The weather was fantastic during the marathon, contributing to a lively atmosphere. The starting area for the half marathon, marathon, and relay runners was at the Joseph Beuys Ufer. The Jan duo moderated the marathon day live on the YouTube channel from 8 am to 12:10 pm, providing exciting updates and insights.
The Kids' Cups were held on Saturday, with races starting as early as 8 am. A total of 166 children completed a 2km course, and 76 children and young people ran 4km. The marathon ended with the "Run and Beat" party at the Rheinterrasse, offering participants and spectators a chance to celebrate their achievements.
Race Director Sonja Oberem expressed her satisfaction with the event, stating that the team and volunteers did an excellent job.
