Rumor about Greg McElroy being subjected to a physical assault by Nick Saban at the University of Alabama

In a surprising twist, rumours have circulated about the potential return of retired college football coach Nick Saban to the sidelines ahead of the 2026 season. However, these rumours have been debunked as false, with Saban himself dismissing such claims.

Saban, who coached Alabama's football team to seven national titles, six of which were with the Crimson Tide and one with LSU, is currently serving as a college football analyst for ESPN this season. His last coaching season was difficult, and he has no regrets about retiring.

During the Nick Saban Legacy Awards, Greg McElroy, a former Alabama quarterback who played for Saban's 2009 national title team, suggested that Saban might come out of retirement. However, Saban responded by stating that he doesn't know where the suggestion came from.

McElroy, who currently works as an analyst for SEC Network and ESPN, has since stood by his original comment. He trusts his original source that Saban would return to coaching for the right opportunity. Saban, however, has made it clear that he is enjoying his retirement from coaching and has mentioned in an interview with Fox that he knows of no opportunity that would entice him to return.

Saban has expressed that he loves the relationship with players and the competition, but considers his current stage of life as another station. He has implied that if McElroy had made such a suggestion during his playing days, he would have faced consequences.

With Saban out of the picture, Kalen DeBoer is the current head coach of Alabama's football team, replacing Saban who retired in January 2024. Despite the speculation, it seems that Saban's coaching days are behind him, and he is content with his current role as a college football analyst.
