"Heavy Heart" due to Cancellation at RTL - RTL Deutschland axes 600 jobs and cancels morning news shows by 2026

RTL Deutschland is cutting around 600 jobs as part of major changes to its programming. Among those affected is presenter Annett Möller, who has co-hosted the morning news shows Punkt 6, Punkt 7, and Punkt 8 since 2022. The broadcaster will replace these news programmes with a single new format in partnership with ntv by the end of May 2026.

Möller, 47, now faces an uncertain future after the network’s decision to restructure its news division, where over a third of the job losses will occur.

Möller has only four weeks of filming left before the current news shows come to an end. She admitted she has no clear plans for what comes next, stating, 'I have no idea what comes next.' Despite the uncertainty, she intends to make the most of her remaining time alongside co-host Simon Beeck.

The presenter openly shared her frustration with RTL’s sudden shift in direction. 'One day you’re celebrated, the next you’re fired,' she remarked, reflecting on the abrupt nature of the changes. The broadcaster has not announced any new role for her, leaving her future after May 2026 unresolved.

RTL’s decision to merge its morning news shows into one joint programme with ntv marks a significant overhaul of its schedule. The move follows a broader cost-cutting strategy, with nearly 200 of the 600 job cuts hitting the news division alone. No details have emerged about Möller’s potential next steps, including whether she will remain in broadcasting or explore other opportunities.

The end of Punkt 6, Punkt 7, and Punkt 8 will bring Möller’s time at RTL to a close after four years. With no new position confirmed, she joins hundreds of colleagues facing redundancy as the network reshapes its output. The final episodes of the current news shows are set to air in late May, marking the last appearances of the long-running morning news format.
