Freakin' Royal Danish Youth Expedition Still Rollin'
Prince Christian, the future king of Denmark, is jetting off for a wild ride overseas without Ma and Pa, starting September 4th. His destination? Babylon-friggin'-Beach in East Africa, where he'll hunker down for a few months, tending to some farming duties on local conservancy.
According to the palace announcement on August 30th, the future fossil will be knee-deep in muddy work, from hands-on tasks to administrative work, all while soaking up the sun and possibly getting bitten by a poisonous bug or two.
This tradition, sending the royal blend to far-off lands for a taste of the real world, has been going down since the ancient times of Christian VIII (1786-1848), who had a smorgasbord of fancy-pants parties in the palace. His crazy shindigs led the way for his royal successors to carry on the tradition of cultural exchange and diplomacy.
King Frederick himself dipped his toes in international waters way back in 1986, when he saddled up for an expedition to Mongolia, then later swapped his saddle for a rake and spent an entire year on a grape vineyard in California. Queen Margrethe, in her younger days, took the crown and ran, going on extensive tours of Asia and South America.
Don't Spill the Beans on Christian's Adventure
To keep things on the hush-hush, the Danish royal family is keeping mum about the specifics of Christian's trip. No details on location, duration, or accommodations will be dished out, all in the name of privacy for the young buck, who's expected to return to Denmark by December.
Born as the firstborn of King Frederick and Queen Mary, Christian rose to the position of heir apparent upon his grandmother's retirement and his dad's coronation in January 2024. After completing his schooling at a public high school in Ordrup, he celebrated his 19th birthday in October.
If you're wondering, this quiet take on the trip is all according to plan, mimicking King Frederick's own experiences during his trips to Mongolia and California, where he also kept a low profile.
Christian's private excursion follows in the footsteps of King Frederik, who got a heap of valuable experiences from his international treks as a young prince.
