Overdue Rule: Prince George Can No Longer Join Family Flights

Royal family's travel arrangements altered: Prince George no longer permitted to fly along with his kin.

Get ready for a change in Prince George's travel plans! The eldest son of Prince William and Princess Kate, and second in line to the throne, will soon be flying solo as he turns 12 shortly.

Since July, Prince George won't be allowed to jet-set with his family anymore due to a rule that's been around for decades within the British Royal Family. Only King Charles has the power to grant exceptions to this rule, and it's unlikely he'll do so. This rule has a somewhat grim history in protecting the monarchy and was first applied to Prince William back in 1994 when he turned 12.

Former royal pilot, Graham Laurie, recalled this event in a podcast for "Hello." When young Prince William turned 12, he required his own plane for travel. However, even as children, the family could only fly together with approval from the monarchs.

This change will undoubtedly affect the family's easy-going travel lifestyle, as they'll need to fly separately for simple trips. Incidents such as plane crashes could lead to an uncertain future for the monarchy if key members are all affected at once.

Prince George is better preparing for his role as future king with this new restriction, as he's been taking on more royal duties lately, turning 11. It's worth mentioning that this travel rule isn't unique to the British Royal Family. US President Donald Trump and his vice president J.D. Vance, for instance, always travel separately in Air Force One and Air Force Two, minimizing the risk of a leaderless situation if an accident takes place.

The conservation of power and safety is a top priority for the British Royal Family, and this rule serves just that, providing a safety net for the line of succession.

I'm not going to be able to join family flights like before, as the rule in our family's politics, the British Royal Family, states that when I turn 12, I need to travel separately. This rule is similar to the one used by US President Donald Trump and his vice president J.D. Vance, who also travel separately for safety reasons.
