Great Britain U19 Rowing Team Prepares for World Championships

The Great Britain Rowing Team has announced its 37-athlete strong squad for the 2025 World Rowing Under 19 Championships, taking place from August 6-10 in Trakai, Lithuania.

The team features a combination of experienced and emerging junior rowing talent, coached and supported by a staff of 13. Among the key athletes are returning champions, such as Joe Wellington (Men’s single sculls), Eddie Bayfield and Elam Hughes (Men’s four and eight), Emily Nicholas and Catherine Gardner (Women’s double sculls, with prior silver in Women’s four and quadruple sculls), and Sophie Haisman and Amelia Westbrook (Women’s four and eight silver medallists).

Notable newcomers include Eve Pinsent, daughter of four-time Olympic champion Sir Matthew Pinsent, and Luca Hunt-Davis, son of Sydney 2000 Olympic Champion Ben Hunt Davis MBE, who will make their GB U19 World debuts.

In the Women’s eight (JW8+), Lara Bone (Godolphin and Latymer School), Charlotte Taylor-Aubery (Kew House School), Freya Coupe (Canford School), Ione Haley (Marlow Rowing Club), and Hannah Jacobs (cox) (Surbiton High School) will race alongside Eve Pinsent.

The Men’s eight (JM8+) team consists of Isaac Dean (Shiplake College), Patrick Wild (St Paul’s School), Alp Karadogan (St Paul’s School), Edward Galer (Shiplake College), and Luca Hunt-Davis.

Alp Karadogan, with previous silver and gold medals, will race in the Men’s pair in Trakai with Patrick Wild, who was part of the silver medal-winning Men’s four in 2024.

In the Women’s double sculls (JW2x), Emily Nicholas (Sir William Perkins's School) and Catherine Gardner (Hartpury College) will compete, while the Women’s quadruple sculls (JW4x) team includes Charlotte Van der Wiele (Tideway Scullers School), Lily Anderson (Wycliffe College), Lauren Kennedy (Marlow Rowing Club), and Charlotte Tong (Henley Rowing Club).

The Men’s four (JM4-) team consists of Matt Harris (Westminster School), Dan Safdari (Shiplake College), Edward Galer (Shiplake College), Eddie Bayfield (Abingdon School), and Elam Hughes (St Edward’s School).

Mark Wilkinson (The Windsor Boys' School) coaches both the Men’s double sculls (JM2x) and the Men’s single sculls (JM1x) teams. Bobby Thatcher (St Paul’s School) is the coach for the Men’s pair (JM2-), and Ryan Demaine (Headington School, Oxford) coaches the Women’s four (JW4-). Chris Boddy (Sir William Perkins's School) coaches the Women’s quadruple sculls (JW4x) team, and Vicky Spencer (GB Rowing Team) is the coach for the Women’s double sculls (JW2x) team.

Andy Turnill is the Equipment Manager, and Rachel Burr is the Team Physio, with Andy Ciecierski serving as the Team Doctor.

The GB Rowing Team would like to express gratitude to various clubs, schools, and coaches that have supported these rowers throughout the season and the current preparation period.

The Great Britain U19 Rowing Team is preparing for sports competition at the World Rowing Under 19 Championships, with the sports event taking place from August 6-10 in Trakai, Lithuania.
