Rostock's BPOL under scrutiny for industrial and organized smuggling activities - Extensive proof uncovered and suspects interrogated
In a significant development, the Federal Police Inspectorate for Combating Crime Rostock has initiated an investigation into a suspected foreigner smuggling operation. The operation, which is alleged to be part of a criminal organization, is said to have resulted in the death of 108 people during a crossing from Libya to Italy via the Mediterranean.
The investigation, which is related to a criminal trial taking place at the Regional Court in Duisburg, has seen several suspects interrogated as part of the operations. During the searches, investigators from the Federal Police Inspectorate for Combating Crime in Rostock secured extensive evidence, including mobile phones, laptops, and storage media.
The examination and evaluation of the seized mobile devices is ongoing, conducted by specialist forces from the Federal Police's mobile phone forensics unit. The Federal Police Inspectorate for Combating Crime Rostock is conducting the investigation, with the Public Prosecutor's Office Duisburg also involved in the case.
The actions are related to a criminal trial taking place at the Regional Court in Duisburg against two main suspects of Lebanese origin. The suspects are accused of smuggling a large number of foreigners into the country for profit as part of a criminal organization.
However, a defendant at the Landgericht Duisburg remains under scrutiny, with no specific information available about their alleged involvement in the smuggling operation.
In a twist to the case, witness statements in court have differed significantly from initial police statements. As a result, criminal proceedings have been initiated against the witnesses for the suspected offense of perjury under § 153 StGB. Suspicion of inciting perjury to exonerate the accused in the original proceedings has also been raised.

As the investigation continues, the public is reminded of the seriousness of such operations and the potential danger they pose to the lives of those involved. The authorities are committed to bringing those responsible to justice and ensuring the safety of the public.
