Rostock District Launches Youth Voice Initiative for Local Politics

A new platform is being developed in the district of Rostock to empower young people with a greater voice in local politics. The initiative, part of the implementation of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Children and Youth Participation Act, kicked off with an event in Güstrow. Around 40 attendees, including representatives and young people, discussed the possibilities and benefits of youth involvement in local governance.

The kick-off event in Güstrow saw Social Affairs Commissioner Anja Kerl and District Council President Veikko Hackendahl welcoming guests. Ideas were exchanged at theme tables, focusing on realistic ways to engage young people in the district's political processes. Following this, another event is scheduled for November 12th in Jugendklub Bad Doberan. This event will explore the potential of a 'Youth in the Landtag' format at the district level, further fostering youth participation.
