In the Last Three Decades, Agriculture in Sverdlovsk Region Has Shown Remarkable Progress

Just like the wider Russia, agriculture in our region has witnessed some groundbreaking economic and technological advancements. Historically known for its industry, Sverdlovsk has a lot to boast about in the agricultural sector. This was highlighted at a gathering in the creative cluster DOMNA, organized by SOFPP, by Tatiana Shilova, Director of the Sverdlovsk branch of AO "Rosselkhozbank".

Remember the days when grocery store shelves were bare? Well, those days are long gone, as Russian agriculture has undergone a significant transformation, even in the realm of technology. We've managed to restore our food independence to a large extent. A few short years ago, we were still importing wheat, but now, we're exporting it, along with several other strategically vital food products.

Reaching such heights is no small feat, considering agriculture contributes less than 5% to the region's Gross Regional Product (GRP). Shilova noted that despite the industrial focus, we still have much to be proud of when it comes to agricultural development. In fact, the Sverdlovsk region ranks third in egg production and seventh in milk production in Russia!

The regional authorities have been consistent in offering financial support to local farmers. In 2025, farmers can look forward to receiving over 236 million rubles in support, totaling a quarter of a billion rubles. In 2024 alone, 2.2 billion rubles from regional and federal budgets were allocated to support the region's livestock industry. The total planned allocation for all regional farmers was 5 billion rubles, with one-fifth coming from federal funds and the rest from regional funds.

In addition, an agreement was signed in 2024 with the Ministry of Agriculture, ensuring that milk from Sverdlovsk cows would remain within the region.
