In a shocking turn of events, Tyler Robinson, the suspected assassin of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, has been charged with aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, felony discharge of a firearm, witness tampering, and commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child.

The shooting occurred on September 10, 2025, at 12:23 p.m., during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University (UVU). Kirk was answering a question about mass shootings when a bullet struck him in the neck. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries.

Prior to the shooting, Robinson was identified entering UVU's campus wearing dark clothing, sunglasses, and carrying a concealed rifle. A 33-hour manhunt ensued, locking down parts of Orem, Utah, and publishing surveillance photos of the shooter. Robinson turned himself in at the Washington County Sheriff's Office on September 11, 2025, accompanied by his parents and a family friend.

The murder weapon was found in a wooded area near campus.

In a twist of circumstances, the roommate of Robinson, Lance Twiggs, is in the process of transitioning from male to female. Twiggs moved into a townhome in St. George, Utah, after being kicked out by his parents. Prior to sharing the apartment with Robinson, Twiggs had initially moved into the townhome.

Twiggs was previously accommodated by his mother, but issues related to substance abuse, gender identity, and video game addiction led to his eviction. The other college roommates eventually moved out, and Twiggs remained in the townhome with Robinson as his roommate. At the time, Twiggs was maintaining a job and able to pay rent.

In a statement to law enforcement, Robinson admitted responsibility for the shooting on September 10, 2025, and expressed motives linked to his belief that Kirk "spread too much hate."

As the investigation continues, the community grapples with the loss of a prominent figure and the unravelling of the events that led to this tragedy. The Utah County Attorney's Office will proceed with the formal charges against Robinson.
