Romania's female volleyball squad secures qualification for the 2026 European Volleyball Championship
The Romanian women's volleyball team has secured a spot in the 2026 European Championship, following a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Croatia in their final Group G qualifier match on August 6, 2025. This marks Romania's fourth consecutive and 28th overall qualification for the tournament.
The match, played at the Alba Blaj Polyvalent Hall, saw Romania emerge victorious with scores of 22-25, 25-21, 26-24, and 25-18. Adelina Budăi-Ungureanu led the Romanian team with a impressive 21 points, while Denisa-Ștefania Cheluță and Rodica Buterez contributed 13 and 11 points respectively.
As a result of this win, Romania currently leads Group G with 3 wins and 1 loss (9 points), while Croatia follows closely with 2 wins and 1 loss (6 points). Kosovo remains in third place with 0 points. If Croatia wins 3-0 or 3-1 against Kosovo in their final match on August 9, 2025 in Osijek, they could potentially win the group.
Romania qualified as one of the best runners-up from qualification pools, ensuring their place in the final tournament that will be held from August 21 to September 6, 2026, and hosted by Turkey, Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, and Sweden. The tournament will feature 24 teams in total.
