Romania's Earliest Snowfall of the Season Hits Mountains
Romania has experienced its earliest snowfall of the season, with several mountain areas receiving snow on Monday, September 29. The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) has issued a weather advisory for cold and rainy conditions until October 2.
Snowfall was reported in various regions, including Maramureș county's Prislop Pass on national road DN18, Suceava's Gura Haitii - Șaru Dornei, Parâng-Șureanu, and Mădăraș in Harghita county. The Transfăgărășan highway, including Bâlea Lake, also received snowfall. Local officials and road crews have taken measures to ensure safety. Similar snow-clearing measures were taken on the Transalpina highway. Road crews prepared plows and spread anti-skid materials on the Transfăgărășan to prevent ice formation. Local mountain rescue teams and regional road maintenance crews are involved in snow plowing and distributing anti-icing agents.
Snowfall is expected to continue at elevations above 1,700 meters, with accumulations of 5 to 10 centimeters. Daytime highs will range between 11 and 20 degrees Celsius, while nighttime lows will drop to between 1 and 10 degrees Celsius. Motorists are advised to exercise caution while traveling through mountain areas.
