Romanian President Nicusor Dan commences his first official tour in Chisinau, Moldova, expressing commitment to bolster Moldova's European Union trajectory.

In a display of unwavering support, Romanian President Nicusor Dan paid a visit to Chisinau, Moldova on June 10, solidifying Romania's commitment to Moldova's European Union (EU) accession journey. This meeting was a clear statement of Romania's politically, economically, and strategically rooted dedication to Moldova as it navigates its path towards the EU.

Maia Sandu, Moldova's leader, warmly welcomed Dan, praising him as a "firm partner and friend" who respects Moldova's sovereignty. Sandu emphasized the shared struggles between the two nations, particularly in the face of Russian aggression and hybrid warfare in the region.

"Russia chose war and crime against a nation," Sandu asserted, warning of the Kremlin's continuous attempts to destabilize pro-European democracies through manipulation, disinformation, and fear. Sandu reiterated the significance of Moldova's resistance, highlighting that its fight is not just a national issue but a regional defense against the spread of Russian influence.

Echoing Sandu's sentiments, Dan labeled Russia as the region's foremost threat and underscored the importance of a unified response to hybrid warfare tactics. He pledged Romania's support in countering these threats and championed the need for coordinated mechanisms to ensure regional security.

The visit also shed light on ongoing collaborative projects focused on infrastructure, energy, education, and business investments. Key projects include roads, gas pipelines, electricity lines, and the impending Chisinau-Vulcănești power line. Future plans involve Moldova importing natural gas from Romania's Black Sea reserves and possibly from Cernavoda's new nuclear reactors starting in 2027.

From an economic standpoint, over 1,700 Romanian companies are currently operating in Moldova, and approximately 8,000 Moldovan-owned businesses are active in Romania, generating employment for over 20,000 individuals.

Looking ahead, Sandu urged Moldovans to look towards Romania's path to modernization and prosperity through European integration as a guiding light for Moldova's future. Meanwhile, President Dan reinforced Romania's readiness to share its EU integration experiences and lessons learned, aiming to further strengthen economic ties and cooperation between the two countries.

In closing, Dan expressed optimism regarding Moldova's upcoming elections in September and extended an invitation for Sandu to visit Bucharest, reaffirming Romania's continued commitment to Moldova.
