Romanian male basketball squad secures spot for 2027 FIBA World Cup preliminary rounds
Romania has secured a commanding position in Group E of the FIBA World Cup qualifiers, following a third consecutive victory against North Macedonia on August 13. The match, which took place in Oradea, ended in a resounding 79-66 victory for Romania.
Rares Utăa and Stefan Grasu led the charge for Romania, scoring 11 points and 20 points respectively. Emanuel Cătăe contributed 10 points and 8 rebounds, while Jacob Wiley put up a valiant effort for North Macedonia, scoring 19 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and providing 5 assists.
With this win, Romania now leads Group E with 6 points, putting them in a strong position to qualify for the 2027 FIBA World Cup. Hungary, who are currently in second place with 3 points, and North Macedonia, in third with the same number of points, will face off in the remaining games of Group E on August 16 (Hungary vs. Romania) and August 20 (North Macedonia vs. Hungary).
