Romania Wins Mixed 8+1 Rowing Olympic Spot, Mihai Chirută Takes Seventh in Men's Single Sculls
Romania's Mihai Chirută won the men's single sculls Final B, securing seventh place overall. Meanwhile, the mixed 8+1 rowing event has been confirmed for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Elisabeta Lipă, President of the Romanian Rowing Federation, expressed the country's ambition to compete for Olympic medals in this event.
Chirută's achievement comes after Romania's impressive performance at the World Championships. The country finished with two gold medals and four silver medals, with 12 crews participating. Notably, Romania won the first-ever mixed 8+1 rowing event at the World Rowing Championships in Shanghai on September 28. Italy came second, and New Zealand finished third in this event.
In the mixed double sculls Final A, Andrei Cornea and Mădălina Cornea finished last. However, the Romanian crew had the best time in the heats and won the final in 05 min 34 sec 46/100. The Netherlands topped the medal table, followed by Great Britain, China, and Romania.
Romania's strong showing at the World Championships has set the stage for their ambitions in the 2028 Olympic Games.
