In the midst of the escalating tension between Israel and Iran, Romania has been actively working to ensure the safety of its nationals. The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) has been at the forefront of coordinating evacuation efforts, successfully repatriating Romanian citizens and their immediate family members from Israel.

On June 26, 2025, the MAE announced the evacuation of another group of 35 Romanian citizens and their first-degree relatives from Israel. They were flown back to Romania aboard a Romanian Air Force C-27J Spartan military aircraft, marking another successful operation in the ongoing evacuation process. The operation was coordinated by the Romanian Embassy in Tel Aviv, the General Consulate in Haifa, and the Romanian Representative Office in Ramallah, with support from the Ministry of National Defence and a joint MApN-SMURD medical team monitoring passengers during the flight.

Earlier evacuation efforts saw over a hundred Romanian citizens returned to Bucharest on military transport flights from the Middle East, reflecting Romania's ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety of its nationals amid the conflict. Throughout the process, Romanian citizens have been supported by diplomatic representatives on the ground and a mobile consular team from the MAE, ensuring both logistical and health-related assistance.

The MAE Crisis Cell continues to coordinate with Romania's diplomatic missions and consular offices in affected states and representatives of other EU member states. The Ministry of National Defence has also provided support, ensuring the smooth operation of these vital evacuation efforts.

It is worth noting that Iran performed a symbolic strike on a US base in Qatar the following day, but no casualties were reported. Despite this, the MAE remains in contact with Israeli authorities, expressing gratitude to regional counterparts who facilitated the evacuation operations.

The alert level for the State of Israel has been raised to level 8 out of 9: "Avoid all travel." Oana Ţoiu, the recently-confirmed foreign minister, thanked those involved in the evacuation and repatriation efforts. As of late June 2025, the conflict between Israel and Iran has largely died down after the US struck Iran's nuclear facilities on Sunday, June 22.

  2. Amidst the escalating general-news related to the Middle East conflicts, Romania's involvement in politics extends to coordinating evacuation efforts, with the MAE remaining in contact with regional counterparts for efficient repatriation of citizens.
