Seiko and Pepsi Unveil Limited-Edition Timepieces in Historic Collaboration

Rolex's fierce rival Seiko has triumphed with an authentic Pepsi partnership, outshining the Swiss luxury brand in the famous Pepsi-inspired watch market.

In an exciting turn of events, Japanese watchmaker Seiko and global beverage giant Pepsi have joined forces for the first time ever, creating a unique collection of watches that seamlessly blend Seiko's horological prowess with Pepsi's iconic branding. This collaboration, which pays homage to Pepsi's signature red and blue colours, has resulted in two limited-edition models within the Seiko 5 Sports family: the SRPL99 and the SSK047.

Background

The partnership between Seiko and Pepsi marks a significant milestone, combining Seiko's decades of watchmaking expertise with Pepsi's instantly recognisable brand identity. The collaboration has resulted in timepieces that echo Pepsi's legendary logo colours, often referred to as "Pepsi" in the watch community [1][2].

Models and Features

SRPL99

The SRPL99 model boasts a 38mm stainless steel case and is powered by the reliable Seiko Caliber 4R36 automatic movement [1][3]. The watch features a silver dial adorned with vintage Pepsi branding at the bottom, inspired by the 1990s Pepsi logo. The watch also includes a red and blue bezel, reminiscent of earlier Seiko models like the reference 7548-700B from the late 1970s [1][3]. A limited edition of only 7,000 units will be produced.

SSK047

The SSK047 model, on the other hand, showcases a 42.5mm black-coated stainless steel case and is powered by the Seiko Caliber 4R34 GMT automatic movement [3]. The watch features a modern black dial with a 24-hour bezel that splits into red and blue sections to mark day and night. The watch includes modern Pepsi branding and a smokey crystal exhibition caseback [3]. Like the SRPL99, only 7,000 units will be produced.

Unique Features and Packaging

The SSK047 model introduces the first silicone strap used on a Seiko SKX-series GMT, embossed with the Pepsi logo [3]. Both watches come in custom Pepsi packaging resembling soda cans, adding to their unique appeal [3].

The SRPL99 watch, part of the collaboration, is structured around '90s Pepsi branding and boasts a 100m water resistance, placing it in the desk diver category. The SSK047 GMT watch arrives in custom Pepsi packaging housed in tins made to look like soda cans. The SSK047 GMT watch features a 24-hour bezel with a classic half-and-half red/blue layout for night and day.

Pricing and Availability

The SRPL99 watch is priced at £330 (~$439) and the SSK047 GMT watch at £470 (~$625). Both watches are available for pre-order now through Seiko's boutique and international sites, with deliveries scheduled for September.

This collaboration not only celebrates the nostalgic appeal of Pepsi but also highlights Seiko's ability to merge style with horological heritage, making these watches a unique addition to any collection.
