In a poignant ceremony, the Stolperstein Initiative Landkreis Osterholz laid memorial stones at five different locations in Hambergen, Germany, honouring the life and legacy of Anni Knipp-Gustavsson, a victim of the Nazi regime.

The first Stolpersteine was dedicated to Anni Knipp-Gustavsson, who resisted the Nazi regime out of Christian conviction. She previously lived at Hauptstraße 42 in Hambergen. Tragically, she was sentenced and taken into "protective custody" in 1937, and later sent to the Ravensbrück concentration camp in 1939.

Anni Knipp-Gustavsson's bravery and defiance were evident in her refusal of the Hitler salute. She also participated in leaflet actions that exposed the Nazi regime's crimes. Remarkably, her passport was signed by Himmler, which facilitated her escape to Sweden, made possible by Felix Kersten, the personal masseur of Heinrich Himmler, who worked in the Ravensbrück concentration camp.

Samtgemeinde Mayor Gerd Brauns acknowledged the importance of confronting the Nazi past, finding it difficult to describe the experience of laying the first Stolpersteine in the Samtgemeinde. Hambergen Mayor Frauke Schunemann emphasized that humanity should be the top priority, as the memorial stones serve as both a memorial and a warning.

Family members from Sweden and the USA attended the event, including Hans-Gunnar Gustavsson, Anni Knipp-Gustavsson's son, who spoke on behalf of the family. Gunter Demnig, the artist responsible for the Stolpersteine, also participated in the first laying.

Other victims in the Samtgemeinde Hambergen, including Albert Waschwill, Willy Rehder, Johann Hans Georg Mahnken, and forced laborers, forced laborers, and prisoners of war from all over Europe, were also remembered with Stolpersteine at the entrance gate to the Muna Lübberstedt.

The Stolpersteine initiative aims to keep the memory of these victims alive, ensuring that their stories are not forgotten. As we remember Anni Knipp-Gustavsson and the others, we are reminded of the importance of standing against injustice and upholding our shared human values.
