Rohit Sharma climbs to the second position in the current ICC ODI player rankings, as Babar Azam experiences a drop for the first time since 2020.
Shubman Gill of India has taken the top spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) One Day International (ODI) batting rankings, according to the most recent rankings released on August 18-20, 2025. Gill, with a rating of 784, is closely followed by Pakistan's Babar Azam (751) and India's Rohit Sharma (756).
The top 10 batsmen in the rankings include Shreyas Iyer (India), Shai Hope (West Indies), Ibrahim Zadran (Afghanistan), Kusal Mendis (Sri Lanka), and Travis Head (Australia). Notably, Virat Kohli, a regular in the top positions, is in fourth place with a rating of 736.
Babar Azam, despite his strong performance in the three ODIs against West Indies (47, 0, and 23), has dropped out of the top two positions for the first time since November 2020. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has moved up to the second position, possibly due to recent performances affecting the ratings of Rohit and other players such as Virat Kohli, who is missing from the top 10.
In the bowling rankings, Maheesh Theekshana of Sri Lanka continues to hold the top position with a rating of 671. Rashid Khan of Afghanistan is in fifth position with a rating of 640, while Keshav Maharaj of South Africa is in third place with a rating of 648. Jayden Seales of West Indies has made a significant leap, jumping up 24 spots to No.33, following his impressive performance in the third ODI against Pakistan, where he took 6-18.
Gudakesh Motie of West Indies has also risen to No.12 in the bowling rankings, and Roston Chase's all-round performance in the Pakistan ODIs, which included three wickets and 138 runs, has moved him from No.40 to No.28 in the ICC men's ODI all-rounder rankings.
In the batting rankings, Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand is in fifth place with a rating of 720, and Charith Asalanka of Sri Lanka is in sixth place with a rating of 719. These rankings provide a reliable view of the top ODI batsmen and bowlers as of mid-August 2025, based on ICC’s official and widely referenced sources.
Sports news outlets report a shift in the ICC ODI rankings, with Shubman Gill of India taking the top spot and Rohit Sharma moving up to second place. These changes are attributed to recent performances in cricket, such as Babar Azam's drop from first place and various batsmen's rankings adjustments, including Virat Kohli's missing the top 10.
