Rogers scores twice as Villa claim best winning run in 36 years

Manchester United’s injury woes have worsened ahead of their Boxing Day clash with Newcastle. Key midfielders Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo will both miss the game, leaving the team short on options. Meanwhile, Aston Villa extended their impressive run with a 2-1 win over United at Villa Park.

Aston Villa secured their seventh straight league victory by defeating Manchester United 2-1. Morgan Rogers scored both goals, marking his first two at Villa Park this season. After the match, he downplayed his performance, saying, 'Sometimes it's your day, sometimes it isn't.'

The win moves Villa into the top three, just one point behind Manchester City and three behind leaders Arsenal. It also marks their best run in 36 years, with 16 wins in their last 18 matches.

United’s struggles deepened as they missed the chance to break into the top five. Their injury list grew when Fernandes suffered a thigh problem, ruling him out for up to a month. Kobbie Mainoo also picked up a knock in training, forcing him to sit out the Newcastle game. With Casemiro suspended, Erik ten Hag had to rely on Lisandro Martínez and debutant Jack Fletcher in midfield.

Former United captain Roy Keane criticised Diogo Dalot after the match, claiming the defender failed to contribute enough to the team.

Aston Villa’s strong form continues, keeping them firmly in the title race. Manchester United, however, remain seventh, with mounting injuries adding to their difficulties. The Boxing Day fixture against Newcastle will test their depleted squad further.
