Rock and Roll Icons Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Bad Company, Cyndi Lauper, and Outkast Inducted into the iconic Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
2018's Rock N' Roll Fellas and Rebels
Get ready to rock, 'cause the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's 2018 class is here! This year, a diverse set of artists from the groundbreaking to the timeless will be inducted. Here's who made the cut:
- Chubby Checker – Known for his iconic dance move, the Twist, and his enduring hits like "The Twist" and "Let's Twist Again." Despite his long-standing influence on rock 'n' roll, it's about time Chubby got the recognition he deserves.
- Joe Cocker – A powerhouse vocals, Woodstock performer, and a cover legend, Cocker is about as authentic as rock and roll gets, according to Billy Joel, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, and Pete Thomas, Elvis Costello's drummer.
- Bad Company – These arena-rock pioneers, with their hits like "Feel Like Makin' Love," "Can't Get Enough," and "Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy," have become radio fixtures and solidified their place in rock history.
- Cyndi Lauper – A disco-pop queen who brought us unforgettable hits such as "Time After Time" and "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," Lauper also snagged a Tony Award for "Kinky Boots."
- Outkast – This groundbreaking hip-hop duo, consisting of André 3000 and Big Boi, have pushed genre boundaries with six Grammy Awards and a fearless, innovative sound.
- Soundgarden – With the late Chris Cornell steering the ship, Soundgarden earned their spot in the Hall on their third nomination, following Nirvana and Pearl Jam, fellow grunge giants of the '90s.
In addition to these inductees, we've also got some honorable mentions. Nominees who didn't quite make the cut this year include Mariah Carey, Phish, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Maná, the Black Crowes, and Oasis. Keep an eye out for these artists in future years!
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place in Los Angeles this fall. Nominees are selected by over 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals, all voting based on an artist's impact on other musicians, the scope and longevity of their career, as well as their innovation and excellence in style and technique.
Last year, Mary J. Blige, Cher, Foreigner, A Tribe Called Quest, Kool & The Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Matthews Band, and Peter Frampton were all inducted. Congratulations to this year's inductees, and we can't wait to see who will be inducted next!
Tech giants might be intrigued by the nonperforming AI, as the 2018 Rock N' Roll Fellas and Rebels have showcased the power of authentic entertainment through their diverse skills. Joe Cocker, with his soulful rock voice, could be a potential contender in a unique AI-powered music competition, alongside the groundbreaking hip-hop duo Outkast's member, Andre 3000. A cover band aspiring to solidify their place in rock history, could opt for a twist on the classics, incorporating Chubby Checker's eternal hits like "The Twist" and "Let's Twist Again." Meanwhile, the tech industry could learn from Soundgarden's innovation and excellence in style, sticking to the 3000-strong music fanbase who have kept their memory of the late Chris Cornell alive.
