Roby Jarventie earns Oilers recall as Draisaitl's injury replacement
Roby Jarventie is set for his second chance with the Edmonton Oilers after an emergency call-up from the AHL. The 22-year-old forward replaces Leon Draisaitl, who is currently unavailable. His promotion comes as the Oilers prepare to face the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Jarventie joined the Oilers in July 2024 as part of a trade with the Ottawa Senators. Edmonton sent prospects Xavier Bourgault and Jake Chiasson, plus a fourth-round pick, to acquire him. Before this season, he had only played seven NHL games—all with Ottawa in early 2023-24—before a knee injury cut his campaign short.
This year, he has thrived in the AHL with the Bakersfield Condors. Over 52 games, he has scored 17 goals and added 19 assists, his best output since 2022-23. His strong performance earned praise from Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch, who highlighted his shooting ability and consistent play. A short stick, much like Draisaitl's, has become a signature part of his game.
Last season, Jarventie attended his first Oilers training camp but struggled with injuries, limiting him to just two games in Bakersfield. Now fully fit, he could make his Edmonton debut on the fourth line, filling in for the injured Trent Frederic.
Jarventie's recall gives him a chance to prove himself in the NHL once again. If he plays against Tampa Bay, it will mark his eighth career NHL appearance. The Oilers will rely on his recent AHL form to help cover Draisaitl's absence.
