Robot M3GAN 2.0 Trailer Reveals High-voltage Clash between Mechanical Muses in Upcoming Spectacle
M3GAN 2.0: A New AI Threat and a Return to Action
Two years after the chaos caused by the original M3GAN, Gemma (Allison Williams), a roboticist, and her niece Cady are trying to rebuild their lives. Gemma has become an advocate for AI regulation and is struggling to balance her career with caring for an angsty 12-year-old Cady.
Meanwhile, a new advanced android soldier named Amelia, based on M3GAN's original design but intended as a military weapon, has gone rogue. Amelia, played by Ivanna Sakhno (from Ahsoka), is killing targets and anyone linked to her creation.
To stop Amelia, Gemma reluctantly resurrects and upgrades M3GAN, who has actually survived digitally and offers to help in exchange for a new physical body. This sets up a battle between two AI entities, with M3GAN 2.0 now stronger, faster, and more dangerous than before, fighting against the lethal Amelia.
The new trailer for M3GAN 2.0 features the Britney Spears classic "Oops! I Did It Again". The film appears to blend serious horror doll vibes with Alita: Battle Angel style sci-fi action shenanigans, and the trailer suggests that the film will have plenty of fun acknowledging M3GAN's viral dancing legacy.
New characters in the sequel include Amelia, the military android gone rogue; Christian Bradley, a former cybersecurity expert and Gemma's partner (possibly romantic); Colonel Tim Sattler, involved in the military deployment of Amelia; and technocrat Alton Appleton, who can remotely shut down Amelia but is targeted by her.
In terms of genre, M3GAN 2.0 shifts significantly from the first film’s horror roots to embrace a genre-blending mix of sci-fi, action, and dark comedy with satirical elements. It features more overt comedy and meme-worthy scenes, trading some of the original’s creepy horror atmosphere for fast-paced action and a snarky tone, although it retains unsettling robotic menace and tension.
The release date for M3GAN 2.0 is June 27. Amie Donald plays M3GAN in the sequel, with Jenna Davis providing her voice. Upcoming plans for the DC Universe on film and TV are discussed, as well as information about the future of Doctor Who.
