Robo Shankar: From Robot Dance Phenomenon to Tamil Film Successes like Maari and TV Fame

In a tragic turn of events, popular Tamil comedian and television personality Robo Shankar passed away on 18 September 2025 at 9:05 PM, following intensive care at GEM Hospital, Chennai. The cause of death was a massive gastrointestinal bleed and multiorgan dysfunction.

Born in Tamil Nadu, India, Robo Shankar began his career as a mimicry artist and standup comedian. His breakthrough came with Star Vijay's Kalakka Povathu Yaaru?, a popular reality show that showcases comedy talents. This was the beginning of a successful journey in the entertainment industry.

Robo Shankar's energy, comic timing, and versatility made him a fan favourite on both TV and film. He went on to feature in several films, including Yaaruda Mahesh, Kappal, Vaayai Moodi Pesavum (2014), Touring Talkies (2015), Maari (2015), and many more. His performance in Maari (2015) was particularly lauded, with critics saying he "deserves a special mention" and "steals the show with his unique one-liners and body language".

In Touring Talkies (2015), Robo Shankar played a negative character, showcasing his range as an actor. Critics also praised his performance in Vaayai Moodi Pesavum (2014) for his comic timing. He earned the nickname "Robo Shankar" for his signature robot dance performances.

Robo Shankar's television career was equally impressive. He was known for his appearances on Kings of Comedy Juniors, Kanni Theevu, Sembaruthi, and Top Cooku Dupe Cooku Season 2. The funeral for Robo Shankar was scheduled for 19 September 2025. His body was taken to his residence in Valasaravakkam, Chennai. His recent medical history included treatment for jaundice, which caused significant weight loss.
