In a surprising turn of events, goalkeeper Robert Kwasigroch has left Hertha BSC to join Qatari second division club Al-Markhiya SC. The transfer was finalised in early August 2025, with a reported fee of around €300,000 being paid to Hertha BSC.

Kwasigroch, a native Berliner, joined Hertha BSC's academy in the summer of 2017. He made his professional debut in the 2nd Bundesliga at home against Eintracht Braunschweig in September 2023. However, he was often loaned out, with last season seeing him at Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Before his move to Hertha BSC, Kwasigroch had guarded the U23 goal 36 times in the Regionalliga Nordost. The decision to leave Hertha BSC was initiated by Kwasigroch himself, driven by his desire for a new sporting challenge. The move also likely offered significant financial incentives, as Al-Markhiya SC can presumably offer an attractive salary despite playing in Qatar's second tier.

Benjamin Weber, the Sporting Director of Hertha BSC, expressed gratitude for Kwasigroch's commitment to the club. He said, "Robert has been a valuable member of our team, and we are grateful for his contributions. We wish him all the best in his new adventure."

The Communication Department of Hertha BSC, responsible for media relations, can be contacted for further information at [email protected]. Kwasigroch's path now leads abroad to Doha in Qatar, marking a shift from the Spree to the Persian Gulf.

Hertha BSC GmbH & Co. KGaA, the official company name of Hertha BSC, is a German corporation based in Berlin. The club competes in various leagues and is known for its strong media relations. The Communication Department not only manages press releases and media interactions but also handles crisis communication for the club. They facilitate interviews and provide information to the media, ensuring a smooth flow of information to the public.

As Kwasigroch embarks on this new journey, standing at a height of 1.94 meters, he takes with him the memories and experiences gained during his time at Hertha BSC. We wish him the best of luck in his new endeavour.

Despite his move to Qatari club Al-Markhiya SC, Kwasigroch's passion for football remains unwavering, with European-leagues potentially awaiting him in future opportunities. The transfer marked a significant change in Kwasigroch's sports career, leaving behind his roots at Hertha BSC in Germany's leagues.
