Robert Kilpatrick Leads the Scottish Music Industry Association for a Decade

Robert Kilpatrick, the CEO and Creative Director of the Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA), has been at the helm of the organisation for a decade. His tenure began in 2014, and since then, he has been instrumental in the growth of the SMIA and its flagship project, the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award.

The SAY Award, first established in 2012, has grown year on year. It is Scotland's national music prize, celebrating and promoting the country's recorded music output. Under Kilpatrick's leadership, the award has distributed over £360,000 in prize money to Scottish artists since its inception.

Kilpatrick leads the SMIA's executive team, designing and implementing the company's strategy. He emphasizes the cultural significance of music beyond commercial metrics and is involved in fostering innovation, cultural exchange, and long-term sector development. As part of this mission, he works with the SMIA company board and collaborates with other national music prizes across the UK as part of the National Music Prize Network[1].

One of Kilpatrick's most significant achievements with the SMIA has been the development and delivery of the SAY Award since 2017. His dedication to the music industry in Scotland is evident in his various executive roles within the SMIA, where he has consistently supported and advocated for Scottish artists.

The SMIA, under Kilpatrick's leadership, continues to make a significant impact on the Scottish music industry. His commitment to celebrating, promoting, and rewarding Scotland's music output is evident in the growth and success of the SAY Award. With Kilpatrick at the helm, the SMIA is poised for continued growth and success in the future.
