Roadways under federal jurisdiction shut down for bicycle protest
On Sunday, thousands of cyclists are expected to participate in a bicycle ride protest in Baden-Württemberg, aiming to advocate for better road conditions. The event, organised by the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC), will see participants from various regions of the state gathering at an evening rally at Stuttgart Castle.
The bicycle ride, which has been on hiatus for six years, will see parts of federal highways 10 and 14 temporarily closed to cars for the demonstration. This closure has been confirmed by a police spokesperson.
The ADFC's state chairman, Matthias Zimmermann, has emphasised the need for more bike highways and a faster expansion of cycling infrastructure. He believes that cycling should be easy, safe, comfortable, and self-evident for everyone.
Notable attendees at the event include Minister of Transport Winfried Hermann and top candidate Cem Özdemir from the Greens. Green politicians are also expected to participate in the bicycle ride to Stuttgart.
The evening rally at Stuttgart Castle will mark the culmination of the day's events, with Minister Hermann and top candidate Özdemir expected to attend.
Disruptions are expected due to the bicycle ride, but the ADFC and the authorities are working to ensure a smooth and safe event for all participants.
It's worth noting that the identity of the Green Party candidate attending the ADFC cycling tour demonstration in Stuttgart on Sunday has not been confirmed in the available search results.
The bicycle ride in Baden-Württemberg has been organised by the ADFC since 2013, and this year's demonstration marks its return after a six-year hiatus, as stated by a spokesperson.
Participants are expected to number around 6,000 for the bicycle ride, making it a significant event in the state's calendar for cycling advocacy.
