Riverside Pickleball Facility Unveiled in New Taipei
New Taipei City Opens Taiwan's First Riverside Pickleball Center
In an exciting development for sports enthusiasts, New Taipei City has launched Taiwan's first riverside pickleball center. Located within the expansive New Taipei Metropolitan Park, this new facility is set to offer the public a wealth of opportunities for leisure or serious workouts.
The pickleball center, which boasts eight courts, has been created with an investment of NT$6.05 million by the city's High Riverbank Construction Management Office. The facility was repurposed from an old basketball facility in the park's Erchong Floodway area, chosen for its low usage.
The game of pickleball, a simple paddle sport inspired by elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis, is predominantly played as doubles, although singles matches also exist. It's organized in a round-robin format, ensuring fairness in play and scoring.
Office Director Huang Yu-ping acknowledged the challenges in finding a suitable site for the pickleball space, but expressed enthusiasm about the new center. The pickleball center is intended for enthusiasts and members of the public interested in trying a new sport.
The Chinese Taipei Pickleball Association has provided information about the sport, stating that it's played with solid paddles and a perforated plastic ball on a court the size of a badminton court, with nets positioned like those on a tennis court.
The eight pickleball courts at the new center will operate on a first-come, first-served system for all players. The facility is open until 10pm from Monday through Thursday and until midnight on Friday and Saturday, offering extended hours for those who want to play late into the night.
New Taipei City is home to 1,382 hectares of riverside park space, making it an ideal location for outdoor activities like pickleball. While the name of the officer responsible for the construction of the first pickleball center at New Taipei Metropolitan Park is not mentioned in the available information, the city's commitment to promoting sports and recreation is clear.
The new pickleball center is set to be a welcome addition to the city's sports scene, offering a fun and engaging way for residents and visitors to stay active and enjoy the outdoors.
