Wiesbaden DLRG Rescues Swimmer in Rhine

In a recent incident, the Wiesbaden branch of the German Life Saving Association (DLRG) successfully carried out a water rescue operation in the Rhine near Walluf locality.

The incident began when the water police alerted the DLRG Wiesbaden and Schierstein district association about a weakened swimmer in the river. In response, a rescue boat from the DLRG station at the Schiersteiner harbor tip was quickly dispatched towards Walluf.

Upon reaching the location, the crew of the rescue boat spotted the affected individual in the fairway and promptly rescued them from the water. The rescued person was found to be under the influence of drugs, experiencing cramps, and weakened.

Immediately, initial medical care was provided by the deployment forces on the boat. The Integrated Control Center Wiesbaden was informed and the deployment data was forwarded to the responsible control center in the Rheingau-Taunus district. Shortly after, the person was handed over to the crew of an also alerted rescue vehicle and the police on land.

The Wiesbaden branch of the DLRG operates as a volunteer water rescue service, delivering both preventive education and active lifesaving operations as part of Germany’s largest and most established water safety organization. The organization is structured to provide training and rapid response at local levels, including Wiesbaden, with volunteers trained in swimming, first aid, diver rescue, and communications to maintain safety on lakes, rivers, and other water bodies.

During the summer months, the importance of the DLRG's water rescue service cannot be overstated. The DLRG stations are staffed by volunteer deployment forces, and rescue boats can be deployed from the station at any time in case of emergencies.

The DLRG urges swimming in the Rhine to be particularly dangerous due to the strong current and shipping risk. It is recommended to use designated bathing areas, supervised lakes, or public baths for one's own safety.

The press release on the water rescue service was published by the fire department of the state capital Wiesbaden, emphasizing the importance of the DLRG's work. The duty station is staffed on Saturdays from 13:00 to 18:00 and on Sundays and holidays from 10:00 to 18:00. The press release does not mention any new rescue incidents or outcomes.
