River Cats' Last Home Series Invites Spectators During Weekend, Averaged Attendees Reduced During A's Initial Season

The Sacramento River Cats and the Oakland Athletics are in the midst of their final homestand at Sutter Health Park, marking the end of a three-season partnership. As the Athletics prepare to move to their permanent home in Las Vegas at the end of this season, both teams have seen a mix of success and challenges during their time in Sacramento.

Over the course of the season, approximately 150 home games have been played between the Cats and the A's. However, the River Cats have not managed to sell out the stadium this season, with an average number of ticketed fans per game of roughly 4,200. This is a decrease from the 2024 average of over 5,500 fans. On the other hand, the Athletics have seen an average attendance of around 9,500 fans per game.

The highest attended game for the Athletics this season was versus the San Francisco Giants on July 4, with a crowd of 12,322. The Athletics series against the Giants, New York Yankees, and the season home opener versus the Chicago Cubs were sellout crowds. In total, the Athletics have seen seven sellout crowds so far in 2025, with an attendance of over 12,000 fans.

However, not all fans have been avid supporters of the Athletics. Some have not attended any A's games at Sutter Health Park and do not plan to. Some River Cats fans have also noticed a decrease in the number of fans in the stadium. Kimber Gibb, a River Cats fan, stated, "I think there's been a decrease."

Despite the challenges, some River Cats fans have found the season exciting due to having both teams to cheer for. Zack Bayrouty, the voice of the River Cats, has expressed gratitude towards the loyal fans and anticipation for the 2026 season. The Gibbs family has also marked their calendar for the return of baseball in 2026.

In an effort to attract more fans during this homestand, the River Cats are offering promotions such as free Giants puffer vests, SpongeBob-themed jersey auctions, fireworks, food deals, discounted merchandise, and the tradition of River Cats players greeting fans at the gates on fan appreciation day.

As the teams prepare to say goodbye to Sutter Health Park, the River Cats organization has expressed plans to make adjustments to their marketing strategy for the upcoming season. Zack Bayrouty, the voice of the River Cats, believes hosting Major League Baseball has raised the bar for everyone at Sutter Health Park.

Becker, another River Cats fan, said, "Tonight, you know, looking around tonight, I think there is." As the final games approach, the atmosphere at Sutter Health Park remains hopeful and energetic, with fans eagerly anticipating the future of both the Sacramento River Cats and the Oakland Athletics.
