Risto Mejide accuses PSOE of trying to manipulate information in 'Everything is a lie', specifically bringing up Ábalos and his actions.
Risto Mejide, the host of the popular Spanish talk show 'Everything is a Lie', has publicly accused the Madrid branch of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) of attempting to modify the topics discussed in his programme.
During a live broadcast, Mejide read a message he received from his 'chief of staff' regarding Mar Espinar, the PSOE's spokesperson in the Madrid Assembly, and the Madrid PSOE. The message stated that the topics they had planned were not the ones she had seen in the news.
Mejide pressed Espinar about potential pressures from the PSOE to control the editorial team's information, to which Espinar replied with a perplexed expression and a vague response. Esperanza Aguirre, a former president of the Madrid regional government, joined the applause of the studio audience.
Mar Espinar, who is also the director of communication of the PSOE of Madrid since last February, was silent and nodded in response to Mejide's reading of the message. Risto Mejide further questioned Espinar about Carolina Gomez, the director of communication of the PSOE of Madrid, who works under Espinar's leadership, asking if she was the person who wrote the message.
It is important to note that Mejide stated that his program is not directed by any political party. Since February 2021, the communicative leadership of the PSOE in Madrid has been held by Manuel Robles. The topics discussed on 'Everything is a Lie' are always made transparent.
In response to the accusations, the PSOE spokesperson in the Madrid Assembly denied having a 'chief of staff'. Espinar tried to divert attention by addressing Esperanza Aguirre, who was a member of the People's Party at the time of the incident.
